In academia the human energy field is often referred to as the biofield. The term is more formal and better tolerated than energyfield. It’s defined as the complex field of energy and information that is believed to surround and permeate the human body.

This concept originates from various ancient healing traditions and holistic health practices. Vital for maintaining health and well-being and a major component in the body’s self-regulation processes it has been largely invisible and widely rejected by Western medicine.

The biofield is composed of energy centers or chakras, meridians aka energy pathways, and the aura a luminous body that surrounds and permeates the physical body.

A variety of practices tap into these components to balance and stimulate healing, some of them offering self-healing techniques that have a noticeable effect.

Many of us can sense energy, our own as well as others. It’s something that is hard to define and has been taught out of common experience.

The biofield reflects an individual’s emotional, spiritual, and physical health. Imbalances or disturbances lead to illness or dysfunctions. A balanced and clear biofield is associated with flow, health, and vitality.
